What we believe
Portstewart Presbyterian Church is a congregation within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Portstewart Presbyterian Church, in keeping with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, is a reformed church with a strong emphasis on the Sovereignty of God, the Kingship of Christ and the authority of the bible.
While there is no set liturgy within the Presbyterian tradition, the Preaching of the Word is central to our worship services. This preaching or proclaiming of God’s word is always in conjunction with public prayer, reading of scripture and praise of God which is most often expressed through singing.
In Portstewart we sing a mixture of traditional metrical psalms, hymns and contemporary worship songs. This does not mean we sing something old and something new every Sunday, rather, over a period of time the depth and variety of our worship will include all styles and genres.
In Portstewart Presbyterian church we passionately believe in lives transformed through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe salvation is entirely an act of God’s grace received through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe the good news of the gospel is open to all regardless of who we are and that our value is in what Christ has done for us, not what we have or have not achieved in life.
